How can I make an appointment?

Call the office at (202) 363-2810 and we will find a time that works, usually within the same week for a consultation. You can also book online at any hour through our scheduling link, or send us a message through the contact page and we will call you back. If you are in pain, say so when you call — urgent problems are triaged ahead of routine appointments.

Where should I park?

Free on-site parking is available at the Hastings Condominiums building at 4444 Connecticut Ave NW #106, so you do not need to feed a meter during your appointment. The office is also a short walk from the Van Ness–UDC and Cleveland Park Metro stations and the Connecticut Avenue bus lines. If you are coming in for a longer appointment such as implant surgery, call ahead and we will tell you the easiest option that day.

What are Dr. Shukoor's licenses and certifications?

Dr. Kambez Shukoor is a licensed dentist practicing as DDS, FAGD, FICOI, MICOI — fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and mastership in the ICOI. He is a US Navy veteran who founded this practice in 2017. His full training history, credentials, and affiliations are listed on his biography page.

Do you provide services in languages other than English?

Yes. Care is provided in English, Spanish, and Persian, and Dr. Kambez Shukoor also speaks Hindi. Let us know when you book if you would prefer to discuss your treatment in one of those languages so we can have the right person with you for the consultation.

How often should I see the dentist?

For most adults, a check-up and cleaning every six months is the general guidance, because it catches decay and gum problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Patients at higher risk — a history of gum disease, heavy tartar buildup, smoking, dry mouth, diabetes, or a mouth full of older restorations — are often seen every three or four months instead. The right interval for you is something we recommend after your exam rather than a fixed rule.

What types of insurance do you accept?

We are a fee-for-service dental office. We accept all insurances that provide out-of-network coverage. Our insurance coordinator, Meryl, will answer all insurance-related questions and will work with your insurance provider to ensure we maximize your coverage for your dental needs. She will also ensure all claims are submitted by our office on your behalf as soon as services are completed.

How often should I get a new toothbrush?

Replace your toothbrush roughly every three months, or sooner if the bristles are splayed or matted — a frayed brush head simply does not clean along the gumline properly. Patients being treated for gum disease are often advised to change more frequently, about every four to six weeks. Also replace your brush after a cold, flu, or other illness.

At what age should my child start seeing the dentist?

General pediatric dental guidance is that a child should be seen when the first tooth appears, and no later than the first birthday. That first visit is short and mostly introductory — a look at the erupting teeth and gums, plus guidance for parents on brushing, bottles, and diet. If your child is already older than that and has not been seen, the right time is simply now.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept most major payment types, including cash, personal checks, and major credit cards. For larger treatment plans, we work with two financing partners — CareCredit and Cherry — so the cost can be spread into monthly payments rather than paid in full up front. Because we are a fee-for-service office, your insurance benefits are applied as out-of-network coverage and we file the claims for you. Everything is laid out in a written, itemized plan before treatment begins.

What happens at a typical check-up?

A routine visit starts with a cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline, followed by polishing. Digital X-rays are taken when they are due, so we can see between teeth and below the gums. Then comes the exam — teeth, existing fillings and crowns, gum health, your bite, and a screening of the soft tissues — along with specific prevention instructions for the spots you are missing at home. If anything needs treatment, you hear about it then, with the images in front of you.
